Justice Whata wearing the new ceremonial gown, designed by Wellington Artist Ros Bignell. This was the first Admissions ceremony that the new gown was worn at. Her brief was to adapt the traditional black gown into the new design and reflect NZ's dual sources of law.
The Ros Bignell designed gown with the stylised Kauri cone with the embroidered shoulder wings featuring the three kete (baskets of knowledge) and a poutama pattern in red, black and gold.

Informal group, Tauranga High Court, the candidate in the Korowhai has been turned in so we can see more of the Maori cloak. They are worn as a mantle of prestige and honour and are generally woven or made from traditional materials.
